I took this photograph of pond apple trees and the sunset reflecting on an Everglades canal back in November. I was visually attracted to these reflections because they were so painterly. I thought of Monet and I knew this was the only part of the scene I wanted to include. So for that evening, I abandoned the idea of photographing the actual sunset and made this picture instead.
